Joel Echelon Installed and registered, looks like the full program and can search on YouTube, BUT cannot download anything, It just shows faded dialog boxes and a spinning load arrow. Tried re-installing, and no change. Search is quick but that is useless. I have a browser for that. Pretty but useless for it's namesake as a downloader for anything.

MICHAEL User I successfully installed the MP3 Downloader for YouTube, but the only issue is that I am unable to download any videos. When you click on the download icon, a pop-up screen appears and the download icon spins around, but nothing is happening.

I've tried numerous methods, but the download icon is still spinning. I've closed the software, restarted my laptop, and other things, but it still doesn't work. Does this software actually works or not?

Mick Martin Yet another hopeless piece of software from the same company that TRIES to doctor their giveaways so that only part of it functions and causes the program that's being given away to not work at all. Pffft!

alan User Same as user Joel Echelon, nice interface, search fast but does not download. It just sits there and spins. I am uninstalling this useless program.

Come on - Bits du Jour - fix this problem - everyone seems to have the same problem!

John Things to note for a good install:

If you have a prior version installed, uninstall it first.

Got a prior version in the download directory? Delete or rename it before downloading, or if after, then rename the new one to not incl. the added "1", "(1)", or whatever your browser or downloader adds.

My download from here was ver. 1.4, but the installer found 1.6, and automatically installed it, and while I used the registration instructions, it became a trial version, so had to click register, then put in my email & registration key again.

Seems to be working after doing the above.

Mick Martin For everyone that's experiencing difficulty in getting MP3 Downloader for YouTube to work, I've finally got it going and it DOES download MP4 (video) files, rather than the MP3 (audio files) that it claims to download. It's also the slowest downloader that I've EVER used for this purpose.

As to how I managed to get it to run, I uninstalled it, and then edited my System Registry to remove all remnants of MP3 Downloader for YouTube. It's useful to note that SoftOrbits uninstaller for this specific program does NOT remove all entries in the System Registry.

Warning! If you're not used to editing your System Registry I'd advise you to stop now as making an error here could leave your computer unable to boot back up.

After rebooting my computer ... I did a "cold reboot", which is where you get your computer to switch off, and leave it off for 20 or 30 seconds before starting it up again, which is a little different to doing a "warm reboot", where you simply ask your computer to Restart, rather than Shut Down ... I reinstalled today's giveaway, entered the same License(sic) key and it now functions correctly.

Even though the videos it downloads take a long time, the quality is excellent.

For anyone that's willing to 'give it a go' you MAY not need to edit the System Registry as I did. Best of luck!

John Mick, I used the Iobit Uninstaller myself in the directions I posted, which I guess I should have noted... And I had it set to remove all registry keys for the installation, as well as perform a system (registry) backup, in case I needed to do a system restore.

FYI, Iobit Uninstaller calls it "Softorbits ver. 1.x", it does not show the name of the program as "Youtube Downloader", "MP3 Downloader", or any other such words - Just "Softorbits" and the version number installed at that point.

(And FYI, I can't see that a cold or warm reboot will effect software, just hardware that needs a reset and isn't as part of a warm boot... Never seen software affected by 1 over the other - which is coming from a programmer & troubleshooter person. :) )

Mick Martin Hi John,

My comment was NOT aimed at you directly sir.

Maybe I should have stated that I used Revo Uninstaller Pro, which does recognise the program to be uninstalled as SoftOrbits MP3 Downloader for Youtube 1.6 ... even though the website uses capital letters "YouTube".

Without trying to sound offensive, sir, might I suggest that you do some research on the differences between a cold reboot and a warm reboot? Although not a "programmer" I've been troubleshooting software for decades now, and I KNOW that it DOES make a difference with SOME software installations ... particularly poorly written programs.

I'm glad that you method worked for you. I was simply offering an alternative option for people to try.

John Mick, Did you try w/o rebooting at all? (Thinking like a programmer here) I did not reboot, but that was not something I thought of, nor tried - I simply used the steps I outlined, other than forgetting to mention the fact I did use the uninstaller with the option to remove registry keys on.

I did that, as I knew there appeared to be a registry or at least overinstall data issue if not, based on prior experience, so have that as the default with that program, and like that it works OK with the free version of the uninstaller with no issues, other than the occasional upgrade nags.

I've seen plenty of program uninstalls (or even installs of things that make huge registry changes or install but not initialize drivers, esp. anti-virus software) that needs a reboot, but warm is normally OK for software... And now that you mention it, I do not doubt that some might use often unused registry keys to start a first-run (or complete a run-once uninstall) type of thing, but honestly I've not seen programs that stubborn in a long time.

I do know well of cases were speakers, mics, or cameras, for example, do not work after a bad boot until you do a full shutdown and restart at least 15-20 seconds later, but that's a case of the device not being initialized fully on a warm boot.

I did not intend to pick on your reply, just some counterpoints that I've experienced over time since Windows 3.11 and/or DOS were prevalent. (That's about 40 years now.)

Hope this clears up the way in which I replied last... No harm intended!

(This is my last reply here on this program in any case.)

Mick Martin Dear John,

After re-reading my reply to you sir, I appreciate that I may have sounded harsh, and for that I apologise. I honestly was NOT trying to be offensive or critical, it's just things that I've learned since I've been using computers, and I've been using computers for the past 42 years. My first PC had MS-DOS 2.0 installed, which replaced with various editions of DOS ... not all of them being MS-DOS, but I soon installed Windows 3.0, which I pretty quickly replaced with Windows 3.1 and then 3.11.

I did not reinstall without rebooting as, from my own personal experience, and poor programming skills by SOME programmers, I KNOW that there are often ... not so much nowadays ... remnants left within the System Registry, even with some of the better uninstaller programs being used. (Sadly, SoftOrbits, among other companies, seem to be one of these companies that make it difficult for uninstallers to find every registry entry that's been made, or have been deliberately designed to be not found by uninstaller programs. I've used uninstallers in the past that insist on removing ALL entries from not only specific software applications, but ALL software by a specific company, making some of their existing applications not function at all, or reverting to Trial versions.)

The reason I did reboot my computer is because I wanted it to be a totally fresh install with no risk of their being registry entries that COULD interfere with what I was hoping to achieve. (I've used different uninstaller programs in the past and found that SOME of those are not as efficient at removing registry entries as I would like.)

I agree with you, sir, that a warm reboot is MOST OFTEN sufficient with MANY software applications, but it appears that SOME companies have found various methods for leaving details within the system registry, presumably as a method of 'rooting out' illegal installations of their software.

For years now I have always done a cold reboot after editing anything in the System Registry precisely because of some software not properly initializing after a warm reboot.

I hope we can still remain friends, John.

Antoine User I really need this software, but I see that many people have problems with this software. Can anyone tell when this problem was fixed?

Louis Ayers Yes! After you install it, run it, go to support, and report the problem. Almost immediately, they emailed back with a link to a corrected copy. It now works a treat, slow but good quality.
